How to Help

Since its beginning, BIG has been a volunteer, non-profit organization.  We rely on our members, and others in the community to step forward with the support we need to make progress in promoting our mission.  This support can take several forms:

Volunteer - Your time and talents are valuable assets.  A little bit can go a long way in helping BIG with such tasks as:  distributing brochures to bike shops, writing articles for the newsletter, setting up and operating a Bike to Work Week refueling station, designing a poster or flyer to advertise an event, or counting bicycle and pedestrian traffic for the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project.  Contact Us

Be Informed - Knowledge is power!  You can help fulfill BIG's mission by absorbing some of that power from this website, and from BIG's listserve, both of which will keep you up to date on events, policy issues, construction projects, and more.  Join the Listserve

Participate - Stand up and be counted!  A significant aspect of BIG's mission involves mobilizing people (you for instance) and getting them to attend events such as:  BIG's Member Involvement Meetings, the Ride of Silence, public meetings on planning or construction projects, Bike to Work Week Refueling Stations, or BIG Salute to Bike Lanes. Spread the Word - Surprisingly, word of mouth is still one of the most effective ways to get a simple message out to a broad audience. You can be the next link in the chain by telling others about BIG and our mission, setting an example by practicing safe bicycling principles, explaining those principles to less skilled bicyclists, or gently reminding motorists to share the road safely and respect bicyclists' rights to do the same.
