Volunteer Opportunities

Want to help transform Greensboro into a safer place for cyclists? Consider volunteering with Bicycling in Greensboro!

  • SPECIAL EVENTS: Help with our public outreach efforts, bicycling safety events, and our annual Ride of Silence memorial bike ride.

Public Outreach: Attend various events throughout the year with our tent and table to help get more people involved, attend neighborhood meetings, etc.

Bicycling Safety Events: Help put on bike rodeos to teach children basic bicycling safety on a temporary course that mimics public streets, drivers education classes to teach drivers to co-exist with bicyclists, and adult bicycling safety classes.

Greensboro's Annual Ride of Silence: Be part of the planning process for arguably the most important bicycle ride of the year. We are always looking for help with rider registration, ride support, and various other opportunities on the day of the event as well.

Apple Pie Ride: The Apple Pie Ride is BIG's biggest annual fundraiser / bike ride that takes place every July 4th! Want to get involved in the planning process or help out on the day of the event? We would love to have you onboard.

  • CYCLING SAFETY INSTRUCTOR: Consider getting your League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certification through the League of American Bicyclists. Our local LCIs often teach our bicycling safety and drivers education classes to ensure that the classes remain consistent, accurate, and thorough. Our Learn to Ride classes are led by LCIs as well -- there is an hourly monetary compensation for those chosen to take on the Lead Instructor responsibilities.
  • BICYCLING ADVOCACY: Help us show decision makers that bicycling safety matters! Join our Advocacy Committee to help us strategize and effectively advocate for safer cycling infrastructure throughout Greater Greensboro. For more information on our Advocacy Committee and current projects, please see:  https://bikegso.org/Current-Advocacy-Projects-and-Goals/
  • CHANGING GEARS BIKE MECHANIC: Are you mechanically inclined? Consider helping us prepare bicycle donations to give to bicycle recipients at our Changing Gears monthly safety class and bike giveaway. Our mechanics meet regularly at our bike space at the Interactive Resource Center and are also encouraged to take home bikes to repair. Let us know you want to be involved!
  • BICYCLE TRANSPORTER: Own a truck, trailer, or utility van? We are always looking for help transporting bicycles! This need frequently arises for our programs, events, or when donors with bicycles destined for new homes through our Changing Gears program request that they are picked up.
  • "LEARN TO RIDE" INSTRUCTOR: This is a very fulfilling volunteer opportunity! There is nothing like being there the moment a child, teen, or adult pedals on their own for the first time. Join our team of instructors and teach people how to ride bicycles during our bi-monthly Learn to Ride classes. No experience or certification required, although you must know how to ride a bicycle.
  • BIG BOARD MEMBER: Passionate about bicycling and BIG's mission? Consider attending a BIG Board meeting and potentially joining the BIG Board of Directors. We are always looking for passionate people with skillsets that can help us as we work towards our goals.
  • EVENT and MARKETING COMMITTEE MEMBER: Are you tech savvy? If so, we could use your skillset! Help strategize and implement marketing strategies to best reach people for educational purposes, to promote events and programs, and to get others involved,
